I really hate it when:
- I have to translate...
...in the insurance or technical field;
...small, detailed, annoying tables or charts;
...under pressure, like 1 zillion pages for yesterday;
...a text that is so badly written in the source language that I need to rephrase it/translate it into the same language before I can properly translate it into the target language;
- I have to proofread a translation that is so bad that I'd rather translate the text myself all over again;
- Clients don't know what to ask for and I have to waste time and patience to find out what they really want;
- And last, but maybe the most important of all: I really hate it when people look down on translation and translators, like this is a job anyone can do and that requires no special skills and when they act like "Oh, I'd do it myself, but I'm so important and have no time at all and so I'll have you do it for me", when in fact they picked up the foreign language "by ear" and are by no means qualified to do it, not to mention criticise.
Wow, a lot of pet peeves... Maybe I'm in the wrong business. But maybe I'm not the only one fighting these "minor" annoyances. Would anyone else like to share?

-when the client asks you 100 times to confirm that you can take the job and that you received the documents, but doesn't bother to confirm that he received the translation although you specifically asked for it.
- same for feedback, not even a "thank you" note

lasa bre, ca se intampla sa nu te plateasca, sa nu raspunda la emailuri dupa ce ai dat docomentu, sa uite cum te cheama cand suni sa mai intrebi cum e cu viata si apoi, sa te sune dupa doua luni mieros si bland ca si cum ar suna-o pe ma-sa, ca deh, are nevoie iar de ceva... sa te sune azi la 5 ca vrea maine la 12 si sunt putine pagini, numai vreo 20 si limbaju...nimic mai usor...poate putin tehnic pe ici pe colea, dar se mai relaxeaza la pagina 20 la ultimul cuvant. Si, da da, cum sa nu, o faceam eu daca aveam timp, ca e usurel, dar na, nu prea am timp... A, si sper ca nu-mi iei greutatea mea in aur
cata frustrare mai inmagazineaza si traducatorii astia
nush cine naiba se cred ;))
